The Kazincbarcika District Court sentenced a woman to two years imprisonment, suspended for four years, who attempted to deliver a letter containing prohibited substances to her partner imprisoned in a correctional facility last autumn.
On 21 November 2024, she posted a parcel from Izsófalva in Borsod for the imprisoned man. The paper had been soaked in two different illegal substances. However, the prison confiscated the package, so the drugs did not reach the addressee.
The defendant admitted at the preparatory hearing that she had committed the act and did not request a public trial. The court therefore reached a decision in expedited proceedings: it found her guilty of the crime of drug trafficking, which she had committed in a law-enforcement facility.
The judge considered it a mitigating circumstance that the woman confessed to her deed, had no previous convictions, and was responsible for the care of young children. The quantity of the substance was not significant either. However, the court considered it aggravating that such cases have become increasingly frequent in recent times, and that two different prohibited substances were included in the package.
The decision has not yet become final.
