Documentary film tender fraud: two further suspects arrested in Kecskemét
The Kecskemét District Court has ordered the remand in custody of two suspects for one month each in the tender fraud case involving the NKA.
Arrests in NKA case: 80 million forints claimed for documentary film at centre of charges
According to infostart.hu, the investigating judge of the Kecskemét District Court ordered on Wednesday the remand in custody for one month each of two suspects, who were taken into custody on Monday by the financial investigation unit of the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV).
Criminal proceedings were initiated against the two individuals because they claimed more than 80 million forints in support for documentary film production from the National Cultural Support Authority (NKTK) in the name of a business entity. The company accounted for the obtained tender grant to the NKTK in April 2026, but the film had not actually been completed by the time of the accounting.
Proceedings are ongoing against the suspects on the grounds of well-founded suspicion of budget fraud and the use of a forged private document. The Bács-Kiskun County Chief Prosecutor's Office requested their remand on grounds of risk of flight, concealment, unlawful obstruction of proceedings, and risk of reoffending. Marianna Bodó, the spokesperson, emphasised that the court decision is not final, as the suspects and their defence counsel have appealed.
In addition to the two newly arrested individuals, the authorities took into custody and remanded six people in June, and another person in late July. These include Balázs Bús, former deputy chairman of the NKA and former mayor of Óbuda, and Attila Ughy, former Fidesz Member of Parliament.
The prosecutor's office previously stated: according to well-founded suspicion, the NKA's decision-making body made decisions on support in 1079 cases from December 2024 onwards, exceeding its competence, in breach of applicable legal provisions and regulations, with a combined value exceeding 17 billion forints. According to the authorities, they thereby caused financial loss of this magnitude.
