The Hajdú-Bihar County Chief Prosecutor's Office filed charges against two men who sought to obtain unlawful tax refunds by referring to false invoices, according to Dehir.
One of the defendants established two companies in November 2021. According to official documents, one company commissioned the other to produce a film series, but the actual work was carried out by a private individual for significantly lower compensation.
The company executive, relying on a bogus contract he had created between his two companies valued at more than five billion forints, attempted to recover more than one billion forints in VAT in a declaration filed in the name of one of the companies.
The authorities became suspicious and launched an audit. As a result of the investigation, the requested amount was denied and criminal proceedings were opened.
The chief prosecutor's office accuses both men of attempting to commit budget fraud causing particularly substantial damage and using false documents. They are seeking imprisonment and disqualification from public office. They are also proposing a fine against the company owner and a ban on managing economic organisations.
