Patrols in Szeged's administrative territory checked a car with Romanian number plates being driven by a man from Romania. The vehicle carried five passengers holding Palestinian passports, who were unable to prove they were legally residing in Hungary – according to Police.hu.
Police initiated criminal proceedings against the driver on suspicion of human trafficking. In another case, Hungarian authorities apprehended someone on suspicion of falsifying an official document over the course of the past day.
Seventeen people attempted to enter or remain in the country without permission across the nation. In Csongrád-Csanád county, illegal border crossers were apprehended in three instances, in Szeged, Tornyiszentmiklós and around Ásotthalom. Those detained identified themselves as being of Afghan, Pakistani and Turkish origin, but neither their identities nor their eligibility could be substantiated. Police arranged for their transfer.
Under the Criminal Code, human trafficking in its basic form is punishable by imprisonment of one to five years, and in aggravated form by five to fifteen years imprisonment.
