Man arrested in Miskolc on suspicion of attempted murder in rooftop attack
A Miskolc court has ordered one month of mandatory restraint in the case of a Miskolc man who allegedly attempted to throw his former partner from the roof of a high-rise building. According to information from the Miskolc District Court, the investigating authority is conducting proceedings on suspicion of attempted murder and unlawful deprivation of liberty – as reported by HVG.
The defendant and the victim previously lived together. During their relationship, the man repeatedly behaved violently, assaulted his partner whilst under the influence of alcohol, which led her to end the relationship. On the day of the attack, Sunday, the man visited the woman's home. There he grabbed her by the hair and carried her up the stairs to the highest point of the residential building.
On the roof, he told the victim that he would not let her leave the place alive, then began attacking her verbally and physically. When the woman tried to escape backwards, the man lifted her in his arms, took her to the edge, and began lifting her over the railing. By this point, a large part of her body was hanging over the void.
The victim eventually managed to break free from her attacker and cried out for help. Nearby residents notified the police, which made it possible for the woman to escape safely to her flat.
According to the court's reasoning, due to the expected severity of the penalty, there is a risk that the suspect would flee or hide from the authorities. There is also a risk that he would influence witnesses and intimidate the victim, thereby obstructing the investigation. The man has previously committed similar acts during other proceedings and has also harassed former partners. Based on his past behaviour and the nature of the current case, it is probable that he would commit a violent act again – according to the court statement.
