Former Fonyód leader's detention sought to be extended
According to the Somogy Chief Prosecutor's Office, continued detention is justified in the case involving particularly significant damage for the former mayor and his associate.

Former Fonyód leader's detention sought to be extended
According to a Friday statement from the Somogy Chief Prosecutor's Office, the Kaposvári District Prosecutor's Office requested that the court extend the pre-trial detention of József Hidvégi, former chief executive of Fonyód, and his associate. Both men are suspected of causing property damage of more than one hundred million forints to the local authority through false contracts between 2019 and 2023.
According to the suspicion, the agreements signed by the municipal company concerning green space management and land remediation did not actually cover real transactions. The documents were authenticated by the former mayor, and according to authorities, 102 million forints disappeared through them. The investigating judge ordered the detention of the two men at the end of June.
The prosecutor's office maintains that the risk of flight and obstruction of evidence remains, and therefore it is necessary that the suspects remain behind bars. The proceedings are currently in the investigative stage, under prosecutorial supervision.
