The Kaposvár District Prosecutor's Office is seeking to extend the detention of the former Fonyód mayor and his associate, who are suspected of economic fraud causing 102 million forints in financial loss.

The former leader of the South Balaton municipality and his associate are being investigated on suspicion of economic crimes. The prosecutor's office has now requested that the court keep the two men in investigative detention.
Police took the former mayor into custody at the end of June. His associate was arrested a few days earlier. According to investigators, over a period of four years, from 2019 to 2023, they signed numerous agreements that were not backed by actual work. Citing park and public space maintenance, as well as earthwork, they fraudulently extracted a total of over 100 million forints from the municipal company's coffers.
According to the prosecution, the settlement's former leader knew precisely that the paperwork did not reflect actual work performed. The companies listed in the contracts did not complete the promised tasks – these were handled by other firms or the municipal company itself. Nevertheless, the money ended up in the accounts that the suspects had created.
During the investigation, it emerged that most of the companies mentioned in the agreements were connected to the former mayor's circle of acquaintances. One such company was run by his own son.
According to the reasoning of the Kaposvár District Prosecutor's Office, continued detention is necessary as there is a risk of flight, concealment and obstruction of evidence. The court will decide on the request shortly.
