Reports by former Chief Prosecutor Pál Fürcht submitted to Szeged Regional Investigation Prosecutor's Office
Reports in the Aranykonvoj and Gundalf cases, including those based on the testimony of Pál Fürcht, have been submitted to the Szeged Regional Investigation Prosecutor's Office.
Szeged investigating criminal reports based on Pál Fürcht's statements
The Szeged Regional Investigation Prosecutor's Office has received reports related to the Aranykonvoj and Gundalf cases, as well as those based on the factual assertions of Pál Fürcht, former chief prosecutor – announced Botond Fülöp, the lawyer known as the "Vidék prokurátor", on his Facebook page, according to Telex reporting.
Fülöp himself submitted a report and recently received the decision related to it.
Last week, the law office of Dr Lóránt Horváth, representing the Ukrainian currency transporters, filed a criminal report against an unknown perpetrator for the qualified cases of misleading authorities, false accusation and complicity in crime. The basis of the report was the statement made by Pál Zsolt Fürcht on the ATV programme Egyenes beszéd, as well as his detailed written testimony recorded in the disciplinary proceedings initiated by the Chief Prosecutor's Office. Notably, in the latter, Dr Lóránt Horváth provides Fürcht's legal representation. In the investigation of the gold convoy case, they also proposed that Pál Fürcht be heard as a witness.
Pál Fürcht was the head of the Central Investigation Prosecutor's Office (KNYF) until his resignation on 8 June. In his seven-page resignation letter, he claimed that the Chief Prosecutor's Office had influenced the investigation of several politically sensitive cases – including the Aranykonvoj and Gundalf cases. He justified his resignation primarily by professional disagreements related to the gold convoy case: his view differed from that of the Chief Prosecutor's Office department supervising the KNYF investigation.
In the ATV programme, Fürcht recalled that on 8 May, one of his colleagues detected a phenomenon in a matter of public interest, "as if it was a fabricated case". "I found myself in a situation where I had to report to those leaders who were handling this case that there was a problem. I made this report. According to the rules of the profession, I did not turn to the public" – said Fürcht, adding: "Despite this, the reaction was that I was summoned, they tried to direct me, one senior prosecutor called me an idiot and God-forsaken in front of another colleague of mine."
