On 17 November 2025, acquaintances discovered the body of an 84-year-old Komád pensioner in his own home. Following the report, paramedics were unable to help the injured man, and the on-site investigation suggested that it was not a case of natural death.
Police officers from Hajdú-Bihar county immediately launched an investigation. Residents of the area were questioned, evidence was gathered, and suspicion eventually fell on a 47-year-old man, also a resident of Komád. The two men knew each other.
According to police, the attacker entered the elderly man's house on the day of the crime. He first struck him multiple times in the head with an axe, then took a scythe and a chainsaw with him and left the scene. The tools he had obtained were sold shortly afterwards, after which he lived a normal life.
Investigators, including members of the county criminal investigation department and the Cívis Public Area Support Unit, arrested the suspect in his flat on 25 November.
The man was taken into custody on suspicion of murder committed out of financial gain against an elderly person with limited capacity to defend himself. The public prosecutor's office requested his remand in custody.
