Five years ago, outside a house in Dunavarsány, a father and son together attacked a local rock musician. The older perpetrator, armed with a viper, a metal pipe, and a knife, inflicted ten stab wounds on his victim, who was the new partner of his ex-wife.
The trial began this week at the Budapest Regional Court. In the courthouse building, the murdered man's former partner, Eva, awaited the verdict with her twin children and her mother. The defendants were escorted into the courtroom by prison staff in handcuffs and shackles. The younger defendant, who was the son of the killer's ex-partner, was branded a terrible criminal even by his own mother.
At the time of the tragedy, the victim's young daughters were hospitalised with a coronavirus infection and learned of their father's death from their hospital beds. During the investigation, a piece of audio recording came into the family's possession, which captured the man's final moments and his death. The recording was so shocking that only one of the siblings could bring themselves to listen to it in full.
Before the trial, one of the defendants had previously threatened to kill his mother after seeing her at a restaurant.
During the court hearing, the relatives reacted emotionally to the defendants and voiced their outrage that someone was capable of using his blind father to harm his mother's new partner.
