Intoxicated, drug-addled driver fled accident in Salgótarján – prosecution recommended
A 45-year-old banned driver from Salgótarján caused a car accident while intoxicated and under the influence of drugs, then fled the scene on foot. According to police.hu, a recommendation for prosecution has already been sent to the prosecutor's office.
Intoxicated and drug-addled driver left injured person behind on Nagymező Road
According to police.hu, on 15 August 2025 in the early afternoon, a car travelling from the direction of Vizslás was driving on Nagymező Road in Salgótarján. The driver made a right turn into the opposite lane and collided head-on with another car, which overturned – its driver was injured. The person responsible for the accident then fled on foot and provided no assistance to the injured person.
The Traffic Police Division of the Nógrád County Police Headquarters, Salgótarján branch, identified the perpetrator based on camera recordings and personal data. He was known to the car owner. The 45-year-old man was arrested at his home and taken into custody at the police station.
The investigation established that the suspect had consumed alcohol and drugs before the accident, and – although he had previously been banned from driving – footage from multiple cameras shows that he regularly drove the car.
Authorities concluded the investigation in recent days, which was conducted on suspicion of failure to provide assistance, drug possession, driving under the influence, and driving while under a driving ban. The documents have been sent to the prosecutor's office with a recommendation for prosecution. The man had previously been arrested for other criminal offences.
