A 28-year-old man in Székesfehérvár was involved in two accidents while under the influence of alcohol, but failed to stop at either scene or provide assistance, according to a Police.hu report.
On Palotai Street, a motorist reported that a Mazda car driver had collided with his vehicle and then driven away without providing his personal details. Fortunately, a passing witness noted down the vehicle's registration number, which proved to be crucial evidence.
Officers at the scene analysed security cameras in the surrounding area. The footage revealed that before the collision causing material damage, the same Mazda had struck a moped rider at the intersection of Horvát István and Széchenyi streets. The rider of the two-wheeled vehicle fell, but the driver did not stop there either.
The moped rider later reported to the local police station after receiving medical treatment and wished to file a complaint. This made it possible to identify him.
Investigators queried the data of the Mazda's owner and then headed towards the suspected perpetrator's workplace. On the way, they encountered the vehicle head-on at the intersection of Vásárhelyi Street and Repülőtér Road. The 28-year-old man was stopped, and an alcohol breathalyser test confirmed he was intoxicated.
Police brought him to the station, where he gave a statement as a suspect. Administrative and criminal proceedings are underway against him for failing to provide assistance and driving under the influence. The man admitted that he had consumed strong alcohol on the day of the accidents and on the day of his arrest, and then immediately got behind the wheel.
