A middle-aged man from Tolna county has been remanded in custody for thirty days by the Kaposvár District Court. According to the charges, the man struck a police officer with his vehicle while intoxicated on the evening of 9 July in Kaposszekcső, who was attempting to stop him, and then drove away without stopping – writes Magyar Hang.
According to Attila Vadócz, the court spokesperson, the court ordered the measure citing the risk of flight and the commission of further offences. According to the suspicion, the driver attempted to commit murder against an official, and moreover got behind the wheel despite a prior disqualification and with alcohol in his system.
Based on information from the Central Prosecuting Authority, the incident occurred in the evening on an illuminated section of road. One of the patrol officers was standing on the roadway, attempting to signal the vehicle to stop with his torch. However, the driver did not slow down, drove straight at the uniformed officer, then drove away without stopping and went into hiding.
The seriously injured police officer was rushed to hospital by his colleague, who requested assistance in locating the perpetrator. Public cooperation also contributed to the man being apprehended on the same day. The investigating prosecutor detained him, questioned him as a suspect, and he made a statement regarding the matter.
This was not the first time he had driven while intoxicated: in January of this year he had already been convicted and fined, and his driving licence was revoked for two years.
