A middle-aged man attacked several cars with a spade and pitchfork in an eastern Hungarian town, where he also threatened people passing through the area, according to reporting by Index.hu.
Officers who arrived at the scene ordered him multiple times to drop the tools he was holding. However, the man did not comply. Instead, he raised the spade and advanced towards the officers. The uniformed police then used an electric stun device, causing the attacker to fall to the ground, but he got up onto his knees and again raised the tool threateningly.
Three officers were required to overcome the violent resistance together: they incapacitated him through physical force, took the spade from him, and handcuffed him. During the apprehension, the suspect bit one of the officers on the forearm, causing an injury that would heal within eight days.
The assaulted officer filed a private criminal complaint for light bodily injury. The Debrecen Regional Investigative Prosecutor's Office questioned the perpetrator on suspicion of assault against an official and light bodily injury. The district court ordered his remand in custody for one month, though the man appealed this decision.
Police are also investigating the damage to the cars in a separate case involving public disorder.
