Detention following fatal accident on Soroksári Road
The Budapest Central District Court ordered the detention of a man on 5 September 2026 who caused a fatal traffic accident on Soroksári Road in Budapest three days earlier, the court announced. According to HVG reporting, it was discovered that the driver was driving while under the influence.
Based on the justified suspicion, the accused was driving in the inner traffic lane of Soroksári Road in Budapest's ninth district at around 6 o'clock in the morning on 3 September. For unknown reasons, he veered into the oncoming lane and then collided with a passenger vehicle travelling in the outer traffic lane. As a result of the collision, the other vehicle struck the road verge and a bollard blocking parking.
The driver of the other car sustained injuries so severe that he lost his life at the scene of the accident. A drugs test carried out on the suspect afterwards produced a positive result.
The court's order is not final: the suspect and his defence counsel have appealed against it.
