Kecskemét chief adviser gave counsel from luxury foreign resort for 250 million forints
Ágnes Csapó, chief adviser to Kecskemét, worked from a foreign luxury resort whilst receiving a salary of 1.45 million forints per month. A report has been filed on suspicion of breach of fiduciary duty.
250 million forints in public funds from a foreign holiday paradise
According to 444, Ágnes Csapó, chief adviser to Kecskemét municipality, has provided advisory services worth approximately 250 million forints in public funds over recent years – all whilst working from a remote luxury holiday destination. The matter was brought to public attention by József Király, representative and fraction leader of the Alliance for the Glorious Cities Association, who has also filed a report with police on suspicion of breach of fiduciary duty and negligent mishandling.
The municipality acknowledged to Király's enquiry that Csapó performs her duties "in a public service legal relationship, working remotely". Her salary has been 1.45 million forints gross per month since this year.
Király previously told KecsUP that Csapó, working from abroad, not only gives advice but often issues instructions to the city's various economic enterprises via online or telephone, and also participates online in leadership meetings.
Between 2013 and 2018, Csapó held management duties at the Kecskemét AIPA Alföldi Iparfejlesztési Nonprofit Közhasznú Ltd., and is also a stakeholder in Budapest Priv-Invest Gazdasági Tanácsadó Ltd. Csapó and Klaudia Szemereyné Pataki – Kecskemét's current mayor, elected in 2014 – previously worked together at AIPA. The municipality acquired a majority stake in AIPA in 2016. Csapó became chief adviser in October 2024.
