Traffic examiner convicted of accepting bribes to allow unsafe vehicles to pass inspection
The Pest County Police Headquarters has exposed 35-year-old B. Tamás, who accepted money in exchange for allowing unsuitable vehicles to pass technical inspection.
Traffic examiner caught: issued pass certificates for 65,000 forints
According to Google News HU — Crime, investigators from the Investigation Division of the Pest County Police Headquarters exposed 35-year-old B. Tamás, a testing station manager. According to suspicions, the man accepted bribes to allow vehicles through technical and authenticity inspection that would otherwise not have met the required standards.
The investigators conducted a thorough data collection: they examined the company's operations, financial data, employees, and information related to the inspections carried out. The compiled financial data further strengthened the suspicion.
As part of an undercover operation, an investigator presented a vehicle that was unsuitable from a traffic safety perspective for technical inspection. The car was allowed through without preliminary inspection, and a valid inspection certificate was issued for it — in return, B. Tamás demanded 65,000 forints from the investigator.
On 31 August, police arrested the man at his home and conducted searches at his residence and the testing station. Among the seized items were 3,215,000 forints in cash, 3,830 euros, a motor vehicle, various documents, and a small quantity of suspected narcotics.
B. Tamás was questioned as a suspect. The man admitted to the criminal act; however, regarding the commercial nature of the offence — prior to reviewing the case files — he did not make a statement. He was taken into custody; the police are continuing proceedings against him on reasonable suspicion of accepting bribes, and investigators also recommended criminal supervision.
