Two boys charged with setting fire to a homeless man in Kaposvár
The Kaposvár District Prosecutor's Office has brought charges against two juveniles who are suspected of attacking a homeless man in the Somogy county seat in spring 2024 – reports hvg.hu.
The younger defendant wanted to drive the victim, who was sleeping there, out of an abandoned toilet facility. He first set fire to the victim's clothes, then to rubbish next to him. While the man attempted to extinguish the flames, the attacker struck him with a heavy wooden plank, then pelted him with stones. Finally, he hurled a concrete chunk the size of a palm at his face.
The other boy actively participated in the brutality: he mocked the victim, shone his mobile phone light so his associate could find pebbles more easily, and recorded the entire incident.
The two suspects had previously committed further offences. They stole food and alcoholic beverages from shops in Kaposvár. They also stole a wallet from a private individual and forced open a money collection box in a toilet, from which they took coins.
The boys regularly caused damage at their care facility: they smashed doors and furniture, and the younger one also damaged the television.
The prosecution has recommended that both suspects be placed in a juvenile detention facility.
