Cyber attack on Széchenyi Programme Office: data of two employees falls into unauthorised hands
The Széchenyi Programme Office has been hit by a partially successful cyber attack during which personal data of two employees was leaked. The Rhysida hacker group has demanded 20 bitcoins, nearly 500 million forints, as ransom.
Partially successful cyber attack hits Széchenyi Programme Office
According to Index's information, the information technology systems of the Széchenyi Programme Office have been subjected to a partially successful cyber attack, as a result of which data from the organisation's systems presumably fell into unauthorised hands. The investigating authority notified the company about the incident on 18 June, after which they began protecting the data assets and restoring the information technology system.
The Széchenyi Programme Office confirmed to Telex that personal data of two employees fell into unauthorised hands. These were private documents that the employees had saved to the company's information technology system. It is not yet known exactly what additional data is affected.
The Rhysida hacker group also alluded to the attack: they claim to have obtained data from the Széchenyi Programme Office and are demanding 20 bitcoins – nearly 500 million forints – as a ransom for it.
The case is being investigated by the national cyber security authority, the investigating authority and IT specialists. The incident has also been reported to the National Cyber Security Institute of the National Security Service and the National Data Protection and Freedom of Information Authority.
