According to Ferenc Bíró, head of the Integrity Authority, suspicions of billions of forints in misuse have emerged in connection with the Gondosóra programme launched by the government in 2022. Publicly available sources show a lower figure.
Corruption suspicions emerge over Gondosóra programme
The head of the Integrity Authority, Ferenc Bíró, mentioned the Gondosóra programme as a case of suspected misuse in the billions of forints during a public discussion – according to Telex citing an interview by the DE! Action Community.
The cabinet created the initiative in 2022, which was financed mostly from the European Union's recovery funds. The initial budget came to approximately 108 billion forints. In discussing the suspicious matters, Bíró compared the programme to Gyula Balássy's media empire and emphasised that we are talking about transactions in the billions of forints.
However, publicly accessible information shows lower figures. The project was financed from two EU tender frameworks until the end of 2025, and based on these data, the total expenditure probably does not reach even one hundred billion forints. The Integrity Authority's investigation has thus revealed a significant discrepancy between officially published data and the sum being investigated by the authority.
