Three individuals have been taken into custody by Esztergom investigators on suspicion of systematically plundering retail shops in autumn last year. The team members – two men and a woman – visited multiple shops across the country, according to Police.hu.

The suspicion is that the three-person group sustained themselves through shop theft. They used the same method each time. They entered the store together, where their female associate engaged the employees in conversation, thereby diverting their attention. Meanwhile, the two men removed the security devices from the products and then left on multiple occasions without paying, taking the footwear with them.

The crimes occurred in September 2024. They first appeared in Veszprém on the 5th, then in Esztergom on the 18th, and finally committed a similar theft in Nyíregyháza on the 25th.

On the basis of the reports, the injured parties suffered a total loss of nearly 1.7 million forints. During the investigation, the identities of the Ócs couple and their associate were quickly established. During a house search, the authorities found not only items taken from the shops but also further goods originating from other criminal cases.

Among the seized items were shoes, beauty care products, decorative objects and textiles. These were placed in custody at Esztergom police headquarters, where on 17 March the injured parties – arriving from all over the country – confirmed which goods were taken from which shops by the suspects.

Criminal proceedings were initiated against the trio for theft committed on a continuing and commercial basis.
