A man from Szigetszentmiklós intended to kill his mother, but a worker at the psychological helpline service notified the police, who apprehended the suspect within hours.
Helpline volunteer saved a mother's life
A man living in a Pest county settlement was brought before court on charges of attempted murder. According to the indictment, the Szigetszentmiklós resident called the psychological helpline service several times last September and stated that he would kill his mother and then take his own life.
The man suffered from alcohol and sedative drug dependency, which caused him to frequently come into conflict with his relatives and those around him. He saw his life as hopeless and held his mother responsible for everything. He showed particular interest in firearms, and stored photographs of several guns on his phone.
During conversations with the helpline, the man revealed that he would obtain a pistol and shoot his mother in the head with it. The volunteer on the other end of the line attempted to dissuade him from his plan, but the caller only reinforced his intention.
The worker then kept the man on the line for as long as possible whilst notifying the police through a family member. Within a few hours of the report, investigators apprehended the suspect.
The Pest County Chief Prosecutor's Office brought charges against the man, who had a criminal record with multiple convictions, for attempted murder. The Budapest Metropolitan Court will decide the case.
