A 32-year-old Slovak national, a doctor formerly employed at Saint John's Hospital in Budapest, is being held in custody until mid-September. She is suspected of helping a patient to their death in the emergency department.

The pre-trial detention of a 32-year-old doctor suspected of ending the life of a patient in the emergency department of Saint John's Hospital in Budapest has been extended until mid-September – according to an Index article.
According to Szabó József, spokesperson for the Budapest Metropolitan Court, the woman suspected of manslaughter against a person with diminished capacity was originally to be held in custody until 15 June. However, the court extended her detention by three months due to the risk of flight, concealment, destruction of evidence, tampering with the proceedings, and the commission of further offences.
According to Blikk's information, the Slovak national doctor of Syrian descent worked in the emergency department of the northern Budapest institution in mid-May, when she allegedly caused the death of a patient. The woman's husband is also a healthcare worker, practising at another hospital. The three-member family lived in Buda.
The suspect's father, who lives in Syria, told the newspaper that his daughter's work was satisfactory to everyone; she was respected and valued. She also worked as an anaesthetist and had previously sat a specialisation examination in English in Portugal. For the family, it is incomprehensible what could have happened.
According to a statement from Saint John's Centrum Hospital, they immediately filed a report with the investigative authorities after the case came to light, and took the necessary employment law and professional measures. The person concerned currently has no employment relationship with the institution.
