Miskolc District Court has ordered one month's remand in custody for a Miskolc man who allegedly attempted to push his former partner from the roof of a ten-storey residential building, Miskolc Court of Justice's press office announced to MTI on Wednesday. According to 24.hu, the man had previously been repeatedly aggressive towards his partner, assaulting her while intoxicated, prompting the woman to end the relationship.

The suspect did not accept the break-up. Last Sunday he appeared at the injured party's flat in Miskolc, seized the woman by her hair, and dragged her up the stairs to the roof of the building. There he told her she was not going anywhere, then began to insult and assault her.

When the woman attempted to return to the building, the man grabbed her, took her to the roof railing, and lifted her body over it until she was already hanging over the depths. The woman ultimately freed herself from his grip; those who heard her cries for help called the police, and they rushed to the scene, allowing the injured party to return safely to her flat.

The police initiated criminal proceedings against the man on suspicion of attempted murder and violation of personal freedom.

The court justified the remand in custody by stating that given the severity of the applicable punishment, there is a risk of flight and concealment, and there is also concern that the suspect would influence or intimidate the woman and witnesses. According to the statement, the accused may have been subject to other criminal proceedings at the time of the offence, had also harassed former partners, and therefore based on his history it is probable that he would complete the attempted crime or commit further offences.
