The Capital Chief Prosecutor's Office announced that the investigating authority independently decided to conduct a house search, take the suspect into custody and question István Szakács. Proceedings were initiated against the man for threatening terrorist acts – reports Népszava.
The KR NNI notified the prosecutor's office in writing on 3 July of the initiation of the investigation. Under criminal procedure regulations, this is a mandatory notification requirement in all cases.
Four days later, investigators signalled by telephone that they were conducting a search and would then detain and question the suspect. The competent prosecutor verbally warned them to carefully assess whether the act genuinely falls within the scope of the statutory definition.
Due to press reports, the Chief Prosecutor's Office requested clarification on 8 July. According to the response, the house search was carried out, the man was questioned as a suspect, but was not placed in custody. István Szakács protested the suspicion against him.
The prosecution emphasised that during the investigative phase, police act independently and themselves determine the substantiation of suspicion; no prosecutor's permission is required for this. The Chief Prosecutor's Office may examine the legality of the suspicion when ruling on the complaint. The application and file bundle arrived on Thursday, and the outcome will be made public.
