On Thursday, police units appeared in front of the central building of Semmelweis University at 26 Üllői Street. According to Portfolio.hu sources, the specialised unit of the Rapid Response Police, the National Investigation Office Asset Recovery Bureau, conducted an on-site investigation there.
The Police Headquarters (ORFK) press service confirmed that the intervention took place as part of a criminal case initiated previously. However, the authorities cited the interests of the investigation and did not reveal further details.
The Asset Recovery Bureau has a special remit: it identifies and localises asset items derived from or connected to criminal offences, and has exclusive jurisdiction in conducting asset recovery proceedings. The office was established in 2015 in compliance with EU requirements within the framework of the National Investigation Office.
The property in question is the university's central administrative headquarters, namely the Rector's Building. This is where the institution's management, the deans' offices and central administration operate. This location is therefore the centre of the university's financial and asset management decision-making.
