A 38-year-old man was taken into custody in Nógrád County after police intervened in time and prevented him from injuring his own sister with a knife – the prosecution informed the public.

According to the suspicion, on 8 July 2026, in the afternoon, a heated argument broke out between the man and his sister in a small village in eastern Nógrád, in their shared home. The dispute escalated to the point where the man grabbed a kitchen knife and threatened his relative that he would finish her. Frightened, the woman retreated, but the attacker attempted to reach her with stabbing and slashing motions.

Fortunately, the police arrived at the scene in time and, through their decisive intervention, prevented the tragedy. The agitated man was subdued with the help of an electric shock device.

The investigating authority interrogated the suspect on suspicion of attempted manslaughter, then took him into custody and submitted a request for his remand in custody. The investigating judge of the Balassagyarmat District Court, agreeing with the chief prosecutor's request, ordered the man's remand in custody.

The prosecutor accepted the decision; however, the defendant and his lawyer filed an appeal, so the decision is not yet final.
