Investigation at Eximbank: billions in public funds and risky loans
According to 444's reporting, the Standby Police National Investigation Office has launched a criminal investigation into matters concerning Hungarian Export-Import Bank Plc (Eximbank). The investigation is based on a report filed in July by the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics, which was made in four cases following a review of Eximbank.
Abuse of office and negligent management are the suspected criminal acts. On Monday, thousands of pages of documents were confiscated from the ministry, which had been compiled during the internal investigation.
The government has filed reports in a total of 22 cases, which involve 212.8 billion forints in public funds – half of this is linked to Eximbank. The review revealed that the bank financed high-risk transactions with weak collateral.
In one of the four reported cases, an entity connected to the former prime minister's son-in-law received a 59 billion forint loan – the decision was made in just two days. Among the beneficiaries are companies linked to frequent winners of public procurement contracts under the previous government. (via MTI)
