Police action against István Szakács: investigation launched over video
Early Wednesday morning, officers from the National Investigative Office and the Rapid Response Police descended on István Szakács's home in Győr. The man, known as an influencer for the right-wing Megafon network, claimed that seven police officers arrived, handcuffed him, and told him he had to accompany them because of a recording published on social media.
The authorities launched an investigation on suspicion of a terrorist act. According to Szakács, in the recording he discussed the hypothetical that if former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán were imprisoned, his supporters would do everything to free him. The investigators interpreted this as a threat and also conducted a house search in the flat, where they searched for devices suitable for terrorist acts.
The man was able to leave after a few hours of questioning and detention. His wife, Orsolya Szakács-Tanító, told Magyar Nemzet that a lawyer from the Védvonal organisation rushed to them from Budapest, and they were in constant contact.
The former prime minister reacted to the incident on social media and announced a protest for 9 July at the Sándor Palace.
