After the accident, the driver abandoned his car and attempted to flee on foot. The search operation involved personnel from three counties – Tolna, Somogy and Baranya – as well as the Rapid Response Police Force, civil guards and local residents. The search teams worked with dogs, aircraft and off-road vehicles. The fugitive was finally found on Saturday, after approximately 24 hours of searching, on farmland in the outskirts of Csikóstőttős. This was confirmed by the Tolna County Police Headquarters on the police.hu portal.

The investigation revealed that the perpetrator had previously been banned from driving.
