Criminal proceedings have been initiated against a 28-year-old man in Székesfehérvár on charges of drink-driving and failure to provide assistance, after he caused two accidents on a single day, deliberately leaving both scenes – according to Police.hu.
The first incident occurred at the junction of Horvát István and Széchenyi streets, where the man struck a moped rider. The rider fell, but the driver continued without stopping. Later, on Palotai Road, he collided with another vehicle, then departed from that scene as well without leaving his details.
A witness, however, noted down the registration plate of the Mazda, on the basis of which police began their investigation. Accident investigators also reviewed camera footage from the area, which revealed that in both cases the same vehicle and its driver were responsible.
Detectives proceeded to the suspect's workplace; however, on the way, at the junction of Vásárhelyi Street and Repülőtér Road, they happened to meet him coming towards them. After stopping him, they administered an alcohol breath test, which returned a positive result.
The man was taken to the police station, where he was questioned as a suspect. In his statement, he admitted to consuming spirits on both the day of the accident and the day of his apprehension, and then immediately got behind the wheel.
