55-year-old Debrecen man wrote threatening comment out of fear from battery factory

On Friday morning, the Hajdú-Bihar County Police reported that their Debrecen colleagues had arrested a 55-year-old man at his own home after he made threatening comments about an explosion in a post published on social media. According to 24.hu, the police attached a video of the arrest to the published post and stated that the man had not commented from his own profile; nonetheless, they were able to identify him quickly and went to his address.

During the interrogation, the suspect made a confessional statement and attributed the comment to sudden passion.

ATV managed to get in touch with the man, who gave a more detailed statement about the case. According to him, the comment was related to the local battery factory.

"Battery factory, how they pollute the water and it comes here too. I was very, very scared of that" – said the man, adding that he had not actually wanted to blow anyone up and had no intention of threatening any specific person.

"No one else, no one else… I am very sorry that I wrote that" – he added.

According to a lawyer who spoke to the channel, the case could have serious consequences: the charge of threatening public safety can in principle be punished with three years' imprisonment.
