A 23-year-old Slovak man was arrested near Eger on 22 June, suspected of incitement to serious criminal offences in his home country, with a European arrest warrant issued against him – according to Police.hu.
The Slovak police turned to Hungarian authorities in early June through the ENFAST network. The young man had previously fled his home country after attempting to persuade others on two occasions to use physical violence. According to investigators, in the autumn of last year he offered money to someone to pour corrosive liquid on his former partner's mother. The plan fortunately did not come to fruition because police intervened in time. Later, in spring, he tried to persuade another man to break the woman's limbs – this also did not ultimately happen.
Staff from the Rapid Response Police's National Investigation Office began the search in constant consultation with Slovak colleagues. With the help of local police headquarters – Sátoraljaújhely, Sárospatak and Edelény – they managed to ascertain that the fugitive was constantly moving and using various false names. Within twenty days of the report, they succeeded in locating his hideout in Heves County.
For the arrest, a special unit of the Counter-Terrorism Centre was brought in, as there was concern that the suspect might have access to firearms or explosives. The raid was successful and the man was taken into custody.
A Hungarian court will decide whether to extradite him to Slovakia. The practical details of the extradition are being handled by the National Office for International Criminal Cooperation of the National Police Headquarters in cooperation between the two countries.
