Following several months of investigation, authorities struck on 30 June against a drug trafficking group based in Tata, according to police.hu and the website of Tata City Council.
Local investigators, working with county authorities, detained members of the criminal group in a carefully planned operation. The group's leader was a 55-year-old local man who allegedly had long been of interest to police.
The investigation revealed that the suspects were trafficking prohibited substances in the Tata area. The group sold crystal methamphetamine, and according to the charges, involved children younger than 14 in drug use. The powder was mixed with dangerous substances, which posed serious health risks to buyers.
The criminal organisation committed other offences. Members accepted stolen bicycles, electric scooters and speakers in exchange for drugs, thereby encouraging further thefts in the area.
Police not only identified the sellers but also mapped out the circle of buyers and traced the origin of the stolen goods. The group's leader was detained on charges of drug trafficking and money laundering, whilst his associates were remanded in custody as suspects.
According to Colonel István Debreczeni, head of the Tata police station, the prolonged investigation resulted in the recovery of previously stolen items.
