TEK arrests armed man in Lajosmizse, negotiator and robot dog deployed

Operational units of the Counter-Terrorism Centre (TEK) were deployed to Bartók Béla Street in Lajosmizse, Bács-Kiskun County, on Saturday evening, where a man holding what appeared to be a firearm was behaving erratically in front of his house before barricading himself inside the building, according to reports by Index.

According to information published on the social media page of the Bács-Kiskun County Police Headquarters, police initially consulted with relatives at the scene, then requested TEK intervention. With the assistance of the TEK negotiator, the man eventually left the building, where he was placed in handcuffs. An unlicenced gas-alarm pistol was found in his home.

According to an unverified comment that appeared on social media, the suspected offender – identified as Gábor Suba – was in an intoxicated and drug-affected state and had threatened his family with a firearm. During negotiations, shouting could be heard from both sides, and the authorities deployed a robot dog to the scene.

The Lajosmizse Civilian Guard Association confirmed on its social media page that an official operation had taken place on the street and had been successfully concluded: the target individual was apprehended. At the scene, alongside TEK officers, an armoured vehicle and four or five police cars were present. Bartók Béla Street was closed off during the operation, and the events were witnessed by 50 to 60 local residents.

An ambulance also arrived, but the arrest took place within five minutes. No one was injured, although the man was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure.

Index also contacted the Bács-Kiskun County Police Headquarters, which declined to provide substantive answers to the questions posed, citing data protection reasons. The authorities promised to provide information about the details of the case and further developments at a later time.
