According to a report by forbes.hu, the Central Prosecution Office (KNYF) questioned Tibor Veres, founder and chairman of the Wallis Group, as a suspect in the long-running Óbuda corruption case. Veres is defending himself whilst at liberty; his lawyer described the suspicion as "absurd and unfounded".
According to the prosecutor's well-founded suspicion, the head of a park maintenance company that held contracts with several local councils paid more than 2 billion forints in bribes to local council and political figures between 2011 and 2024. Among the suspects are several current and former district politicians, including Balázs Bús, former mayor of Óbuda, Gergő Czeglédy, former socialist deputy mayor of Óbuda, Zsolt Láng, former mayor of the 2nd District, and Gergely Őrsi, the current mayor, who is currently in prison.
According to a Forbes estimate from last year, Veres is the country's second wealthiest billionaire, with his fortune valued at 756.4 billion forints. His key holdings include Wallis, Wing, Wigo, Praktiker and Graboplast.
