A woman from Sopron paid fifty thousand forints for an electric device advertised on social media that could have been used underwater for paddleboarding, but the box delivered by the postman contained only paper napkins for eating utensils – according to Police.hu.
The victim came across the advertisement on a social media site in recent days. She ordered the device with payment on delivery, and a transaction confirmation arrived via email. On 13 July, the shipment arrived, but after opening the box, it emerged that instead of the promised electric device, it contained several bags of napkins.
The deceived consumer subsequently filed a report. The Sopron Police Headquarters initiated criminal proceedings in the matter.
Experts in crime prevention at the county police headquarters draw attention to the fact that perpetrators of fraud committed on the internet constantly deploy new and new tricks. Therefore, careful shopping remains the most effective way to avoid becoming a victim.
