Former Óbuda mayor arrested in cultural fund case

Balázs Bús, the former leader of Óbuda, was arrested on suspicion of breach of trust – as reported by 444.hu. In addition to the former mayor, five other people were questioned in the same case.

The detention of the suspects was also requested. The investigation is connected to a series of abuses that emerged around the National Cultural Fund (NKA). According to the allegations, a total of seventeen billion forints were transferred without authorisation, of which approximately two billion six hundred million forints have so far been recovered by the state. The National Tax and Customs Administration is conducting proceedings on suspicion of budget fraud and breach of trust.

In earlier articles, the portal reported that during Bús's tenure as mayor, over the course of nearly a decade, the municipality had entered into billion-forint-valued park maintenance contracts with a business network linked to Z. Zsolt. In a unique manner, Óbuda also outsourced parking operations to these companies. When approached by the publication, Bús claimed he did not know Z. Zsolt and did not expect the authorities to come for him.

According to information contained in the morning newsletter, police questioned the suspects on suspicion of breach of trust and requested their detention.
