Zalaszántó false imprisonment: 40-year-old man beat and threatened ex-girlfriend with knife

Abducted in Nagykanizsá, held prisoner in Zalaszántó

According to a report on police.hu, Keszthely police arrested and initiated detention proceedings against a 40-year-old man who made life-threatening threats, assaulted and prevented his former partner from going home.

On the morning of 1 June, a report arrived at police: a woman was being assaulted and held prisoner in Zalaszántó. Officers arrived at the scene within minutes and found the woman, covered in bruises, so frightened that she waited for the ambulance while sitting in the police car.

According to the investigation, the man had invited his ex-girlfriend to meet the previous evening in Nagykanizsá to discuss the break-up. He complained to her about her new relationship, took her phone away, then struck her several times and slammed her against something, dragging her by the hair into a car driven by an acquaintance. Upon reaching the house, the woman driving the car went home, but the assault continued — the perpetrator meanwhile threatened her with a knife.

In the morning, the victim managed to send a secret message to her boss asking for help.

Investigators from Keszthely Police Headquarters questioned the man on suspicion of unlawful deprivation of liberty and assault causing minor bodily injury, and placed him in custody. The woman driving the car was also identified and questioned; she may currently defend herself while free on bail.
