Man stabs ex-wife four times at Fontana Candida, arrested after seven-hour manhunt

A 47-year-old man stabbed his ex-wife four times in the chest at Fontana Candida, a few kilometres from Rome, before fleeing with his minor son in his own car. ANSA Cronaca reports. Doctors emphasised that only chance prevented the assault from becoming a femicide.
According to investigators' reconstruction, the woman had gone to her ex-husband's apartment to recover some personal belongings. An argument broke out, at the end of which the man grabbed a knife and struck the victim repeatedly in the chest. Following the assault, the three — the assailant, the victim, and the man's minor son, who witnessed the scene — got into the car together to take the woman to hospital.
Once the woman was admitted to hospital care, the 47-year-old fled, taking the boy with him. He also tampered with the car's GPS in an attempt to hinder the search. The manhunt lasted approximately seven hours: shortly before midnight, police located the vehicle at Torvaianica, on the coast south of Rome. Investigators waited for the man and his son to return to the car, then intervened and arrested the 47-year-old on a charge of attempted femicide.
The woman, who had never previously filed a complaint against her ex-husband, subsequently told investigators that she had already suffered other assaults by the same man, incidents that also occurred in front of her minor children — the couple has no children in common. The victim is no longer in danger of her life and was discharged from hospital.
Investigators' inquiries also revealed that the 47-year-old, who worked at Porta Portese market, had previously been reported for similar offences by a former ex-wife. This prior incident is now at the centre of the ongoing investigation.
