Stabbing with racial insults in Piazza Verdi in Bologna: 23-year-old Tunisian arrested
A young Somali man was wounded in the chin with a knife in Piazza Verdi in Bologna. Police have traced one of the assailants, a 23-year-old irregular Tunisian.
Knife attack in university district: one wounded and aggressor charged
According to reports from Bologna's Questura via Google News IT — Crime (it), in the night between Monday and Tuesday, 7 July, a Somali citizen born in 2003 was assaulted and wounded with a knife in Piazza Verdi, in the heart of the university district of the Emilia-Romagna capital.
Officers from the General Prevention Office and Public Assistance unit intervened around 03:30, following a report from a Senegalese citizen born in 1996 who had witnessed the scene. The man had told the Operations Room that he had seen three people involved in a quarrel that escalated into a physical assault by two of them against the third.
Arriving in via Petroni, officers were approached by the informant, who indicated the victim: the young man was lying on the ground with traces of blood on his body. Police officers ascertained a deep wound from a cutting weapon to the chin and provided first aid, requesting the intervention of emergency services.
According to the reconstruction carried out by investigators, the victim was sitting in the square when he was approached by two men on bicycles. After insulting him with epithets of a racial nature, one of the two drew a knife and struck him in the chin, then fled along with his accomplice through the adjacent streets.
Before being transported to the Emergency Department of Maggiore Hospital, the wounded young man managed to provide a detailed description of one of the assailants, indicating the direction of Strada Maggiore. A few minutes later, officers stopped and identified the subject: a Tunisian citizen born in 2003, of no fixed abode.
From subsequent checks, it emerged that the 23-year-old has numerous previous offences relating to narcotics and is irregular in national territory. He was referred to the Bologna Public Prosecutor's Office in a state of liberty and, on account of his irregular status, was placed at the disposal of the local Immigration Office, which arranged his transfer to a Repatriation Holding Centre (CPR).
Investigations for the identification of the second accomplice, still unknown, are ongoing. The Questura has clarified that the proceeding is in the preliminary investigation phase and that criminal responsibility is established only by a final conviction judgment.
