Fatal stabbing on beach in Savona: 52-year-old turns himself in in Milan

Yassine Mirinioui, a 36-year-old from the Maghreb, died at Savona hospital in the early hours of Monday from a deep abdominal wound sustained the previous afternoon on the free beach at Prolungamento. ANSA Cronaca reports. Despite emergency surgery carried out during the night, the young man did not survive.
The stabbing occurred on Sunday afternoon on a crowded beach. According to some witness accounts collected by police, the fight—violent and sudden—reportedly broke out due to tensions over the dispute of a bed space between two homeless people. Several beachgoers present reported hearing the attacker say: "Learn to behave better", before drawing a knife and striking Mirinioui in the abdomen.
The wound was extremely deep and lacerated. The victim collapsed on the ground and managed to drag himself a few metres to the play area, where he finally collapsed. The beachgoers, in shock, called emergency services. When the emergency service arrived, the situation appeared immediately serious: Mirinioui was in cardiac arrest. Intubated and stabilised on site, he was transported urgently to hospital, where he died shortly before dawn.
The attacker left the beach heading towards the west. For a certain stretch the man's movements were followed through surveillance cameras, then the trail was lost. In the end it was he himself who contacted the police: "I am at Lambrate, in a bar near the Rimembranza park", he told the operators. The officer who answered kept him on the phone line until a patrol car from the Lambrate police station arrived, which stopped him and took him to the police headquarters.
The 52-year-old, originally from Veneto but resident in Savona, is described as a person accustomed to living on the margins, among reception centres and abandoned structures, with a record for crimes against property. He had lived in Milan in 2023, a circumstance that could explain his choice to seek refuge in the Lombard capital. To investigators from the Volanti, questioned at police headquarters in Milan, he reportedly declared: "I did not want to kill him".
The 52-year-old is now accused of murder and could be subjected shortly to a joint warrant from police and carabinieri. It is the carabinieri who have initiated investigations to reconstruct precisely the dynamics of what happened and definitively ascertain the motive.
