Machete and club attack against two sixteen-year-olds in Crema: two young Egyptians detained

Two men aged 21 and 23, of Egyptian origin, have been arrested this morning by the State Police in Cremona on charges of attempted murder. According to Corriere della Sera – Cronache, the attack dates back to 1 August and took place near Crema railway station, where the two attacked two sixteen-year-old boys with a machete and a club.

The alarm was raised following a report to the emergency number 112. Officers from Crema Police Station, who arrived at the scene, found one of the two minors seriously injured.

Weapons and method of attack

According to the investigation carried out by investigators, the seized machete measured 52 centimetres in total, of which 36 was blade. The two attackers first pushed one of the sixteen-year-olds to the ground, then struck him on the head, back, shoulder and limbs. When the victim attempted to flee, the two pursued him, continuing to beat him. The boy was also struck with bare hands whilst still on the ground.

The second sixteen-year-old received a machete slash to the neck: the blow caused a cut wound of approximately 10 centimetres, severing the subcutaneous muscle. Only the prompt intervention of emergency services prevented fatal consequences. The young man was taken to hospital and underwent emergency surgery.

Only the intervention of third parties stopped the two attackers

The two attackers failed to kill the minors only thanks to the intervention of some third parties present at the scene and the flight of one of the victims. Some friends of the assaulted boys attempted to help them, using clubs and chains to repel the assault.

The twenty-three-year-old armed with a machete made numerous slashing movements, attempting to strike anyone who approached him, also picking up a club from the ground which he wielded in his other hand. He even struck an automobile in which other members of the group were attempting to take refuge.

Investigation and arrests

The investigation by Cremona State Police began immediately following the events of 1 August. The enquiries made it possible to identify the two perpetrators, leading to the arrests carried out today. The two young men now face charges of attempted murder against both minors.
