Son-in-law imprisoned following death of 96-year-old mother-in-law in Villatora di Saonara
A 96-year-old woman was found dead in her home in Villatora di Saonara, in the Padova province, suffocated with a plastic bag around her neck. According to rainews.it, the woman was killed by her son-in-law, a retired man with no criminal record aged 70.
It was the man himself who called the 112 emergency number, reporting that he had attacked his mother-in-law. The carabinieri of the Piove di Sacco Company kept him on the line whilst they reached the home, but there was nothing more that could be done for the elderly woman.
The 70-year-old reportedly stated that he had acted out of exasperation at the woman's behaviour. She had been ill for some time and suffered from conditions related to her age, with conduct that was becoming increasingly difficult to manage. At the time of the incident, the mother-in-law and son-in-law were alone in the house.
The man is now in prison in Padova. Investigations by the carabinieri and the Public Prosecutor's office are ongoing.
