The victim suffered from various medical conditions and was being cared for at home by her daughter and the latter's husband, a man of 70 years.

The seventy-year-old is said to have suffocated his elderly mother-in-law by placing a plastic bag over her head. The act is said to have occurred after the woman had expressed a healthcare need. At the time of the incident, the two were alone in the house.
