Elderly couple beheaded in Mirandola: murder investigation opened

Tragedy in the Modena countryside

Two elderly spouses were found dead inside their home in the countryside of Mirandola, in the province of Modena. According to ansa.it, the man was 80 years old and the woman 70. The bodies displayed deep injuries to the head, consistent with beheading. Police, carabinieri and emergency service operators attended the scene during the evening.

The authorities have opened an investigation file for double homicide. The investigation is coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office of Modena under the direction of deputy prosecutor Marco Niccolini. The head of the mobile squad Mario Paternoster coordinated the initial response. Officers from the scientific police unit conducted investigations at the scene of discovery.

The couple's son was already questioned by investigators in the course of the day. However, it is not known who alerted the police to the presence of the bodies. The small street where the home is located was immediately cordoned off to prevent access by unauthorised persons. The mayor of Mirandola, Letizia Budri, is in direct contact with the police to follow developments in the investigation. The municipality has approximately 25,000 inhabitants.

At present, all leads are being examined. What occurred inside the home and the motives remain under scrutiny by the Prosecutor's Office, which is proceeding without ruling out any hypothesis.
