Son-in-law arrested following death of 96-year-old mother-in-law in Villatora di Saonara

In Villatora di Saonara, in the Padua province, a 96-year-old woman was found dead in her home with a plastic bag around her neck. According to rainews.it, she was killed by her son-in-law, a 70-year-old pensioner with no criminal record.

It was the man himself who called the emergency services, reporting that he had attacked his mother-in-law. Carabinieri from the Piove di Sacco Company kept him on the line whilst they reached the property, where there was nothing more to be done for the elderly woman.

The 70-year-old reportedly stated that he had acted driven by the difficulty of managing his mother-in-law's behaviour, as she had been ill for some time and suffered from age-related conditions. At the time of the incident, the two were reportedly alone in the house.

The man is now in custody in Padua. The carabinieri and the Public Prosecutor's Office have opened an investigation into the case.
