The Mobile Squad of the Potenza Police Headquarters has discovered and seized firearms and 144 rounds of ammunition concealed in vegetation in a rural area of the municipality of Pignola. This is reported by questure.poliziadistato.it, clarifying that the operation is part of investigations into the robbery at the cash transport company "Cosmopol", which occurred on 30 June 2025.
On Thursday morning, search warrants for persons and residences were executed against two individuals under investigation for that robbery, who are already defendants in proceedings for criminal association of a mafia-type nature. In parallel, an extraordinary territorial control operation was arranged in the same Basilicata municipality.
The activity involved the support of the Basilicata Crime Prevention Unit and the State Police dog units. Overall, officers identified 74 persons — 18 of whom with police records — checked 58 vehicles and issued 4 penalties for violations of the Road Code.
Searches conducted in a rural area adjacent to land at the disposal of one of those under investigation led to the discovery of several hiding places carefully concealed by vegetation. Inside were found a modified revolver-type pistol, a pen pistol and 144 rounds of various calibre, suitable for both short and long firearms. Additional containers were also found which proved to be empty, believed to have been used to conceal weapons or other material.
All seized material will be subjected to technical and ballistic examinations to establish its origin, functionality and any connection with other criminal episodes.
The investigation is in the preliminary phase. The presumption of innocence applies to those under investigation until a final conviction judgment.
