A 52-year-old Italian man has been arrested in the Milan district of Lambrate for the murder of a 36-year-old Moroccan man that occurred on a beach in Savona. The attack took place on Sunday afternoon, around 3.30 p.m., on the Prolungamento beach, in the presence of numerous swimmers.
The victim, a homeless man with the initials M.Y., had been living for several days in a tent in a secluded area of the beach, alongside other people. According to the reconstruction, the assailant reached him suddenly and struck him repeatedly in the abdomen with a knife. Some witnesses report that during the attack, the man shouted at the victim: "Learn how to behave yourself."
After the blows were inflicted, the 36-year-old managed to drag himself to the road asking for help, but collapsed to the ground as a result of bleeding. Rushed to San Paolo Hospital in Savona, he died during the night despite doctors' attempts to save him.
The attacker fled immediately from the scene of the crime. Once in Milan, he decided to turn himself in: he called police from 112 while inside a bar in the Lambrate district, where he was then taken into custody by officers. The investigation is being conducted by public prosecutor Luca Traversa, with coordination from police, carabinieri and coastguard.
