Attack on Ranucci: Lavitola interrogated in Rome, exercises right to silence

Valter Lavitola presented himself at the Prosecutor's Office in Rome to be heard by investigators from the Antimafia District Direction as part of the investigation into an attack on journalist Sigfrido Ranucci. As lastampa.it reports, the former publisher and businessman is under investigation as the alleged mastermind of the bomb attack that occurred in October 2025 in front of the home of the Report presenter in Pomezia.
Faced with questions from the magistrates, Lavitola chose not to cooperate. "I'm not talking," he declared, adding: "I'll see you when I get out of prison." When asked if he was sure he would be released, he replied: "I think so."
The charges against him are serious: the Prosecutor's Office contests the charge of massacre, as well as mafia association. According to investigators, Lavitola allegedly carried out a reconnaissance operation near the journalist's villa before the attack.
At the centre of the investigation remain the motive and the role of the people who, according to investigators, would have organised and carried out the attack. The evidence gathered points to reconstructing the chain of command that would have led to the explosion in front of Ranucci's home, a well-known figure in Italian investigative journalism.
